Become a Dolphin Researcher for the afternoon (5 - 12 years) – 1:00pm - 2:30pm
Join the Marine Mammal Foundation these coming school holidays for their exciting Dolphin Discovery school holiday program! Did you know a new species of dolphin was discovered in Port Phillip Bay in 2011? In our Dolphin Discovery school holiday program, participants will learn all about the critically endangered Burrunan dolphin, and how MMF research contributes is used to better understand these amazing animals who share our watery backyards.
Get to know individual Burrunan dolphins through unique dorsal fin nicks-and-notches, and interactive activities to design and share your own Burrunan dolphin. Head below the surface with unique underwater footage, and hear the sounds of dolphin echolocation from our very own Port Phillip Bay!
This program will also highlight the negative impact of litter and marine debris, and how local litter can impact marine environments. Discover the actions we can take every day individually, as a family, and wider community to reduce our reliance and use of single-use plastics, make more sustainable and informed choices, and correctly dispose of litter and waste to conserve local marine environments and the Burrunan dolphins who call them home.
